Eddie Whiteside Library
With so many players and such a good venue the Masters was a perfect place to launch the Eddie Whiteside Library. With some 40 books and 20 DVDs the players were spoilt for choice. The aim is to allow players who dont have many chess books access to quality books that they can study from. The hope is that players and clubs will also develop coaching materials from the resources and add these to the library thereby building and enriching the resource.
Eddie Whiteside loved chess and enjoyed teaching players how to improve their game. He gave a brilliant talk at one of the UCU's summer schools and would always take time with a player to discuss a game and study how to improve it. He left his chess books and DVDs to the UCU. This library is in honor of this wonderful man.
Geoff Hindley the president of the UCU and Robert Lavery were two of the users of the Library
Other members included Paul Anderson, Chris Cao, William Storey, Andrew Todd.
A modest beginning which we will build on.
