Top young chess players enjoy Stormont

Kieran McCarthy MLA invited the 14 top players to play at Stormont in the Stormont Elite chess competition. The players (ages from 6 to 18) have played in the monthly Childrens Chess tournaments held at Methodist College. To gain an invite they had to be in the top 4 of a Grand-prix point system (adding best results from 3 of the tournaments). Parents, Principals and Volunteers were also invited. Champions: Upper Secondary School: Kieran Robbin (RBAI) Form4 Lower Secondary School: Eibha Ni Mhuireagian (Ursaline College) Form1 and Jake Patterson (Home Educated) Form3 Primary School: Honor Parisiss (Fullerton) P7

The Winners 2013

The event hosted by Kieran McCarthy was held on 7th June 2013 and celebrated top young chess talent.

After a tour of Stormont 3 tournaments were played. With 4 children in each. A Primary, Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary all-play-all competitions.

For younger players who perform exceptionally and who possibly havent won a prize. We give out the Exceptional Young Player awards - this year we have some brilliant talent.

After the tournament Kieran McCarthy MLA presented the youngsters with their awards and certificates. The school Principals/Representatives and the Ulster Chess Union President Chris Kelly formed a line of honour shaking hands/congratulating the winners after they recieved their prizes.
